Forts, a lagoon and a coast that still feels secret.

Ghar El Melh was once a stronghold of corsairs and naval power, and three Ottoman-era forts still stand guard over the town. Its old harbour opens onto a lagoon where fishermen and farmers share the shoreline.

Beyond the town, the coast around Sidi Ali el Mekki offers clear water and cliffs that remain blissfully undeveloped. It's an easy trip from Tunis that feels much further away.

Highlights

  • The Ottoman forts

  • The old harbour and lagoon

  • Sidi Ali el Mekki beach
