A hilltop city with a long memory.
Le Kef sits high on a hillside, its kasbah looking out across the plains of the north-west. The city, known in antiquity as Sicca Veneria, has been inhabited for millennia, and its old quarter still climbs in steep lanes towards the fortress.
It makes a good base for exploring the region, including the Table de Jugurtha, a dramatic flat-topped mountain near Kalaat Senan.
