Springs and canyons in the mountains above the desert.
North-west of Tozeur, the desert rises into rocky mountains, and in their folds sit three oases. Chebika has a spring and a small waterfall in a palm-filled gorge. Tamerza's old village, abandoned after the floods of 1969, stands in ruins above the valley. Mides sits on the edge of a dramatic canyon.
Together they make one of the most spectacular day trips in Tunisia, especially early in the morning, before the heat.
