The Best Time to Visit Tunisia
Updated: 1 day ago
Tunisia has two climates worth planning around: a Mediterranean north and coast, and a desert south. The right season depends on which one you came for.
Spring (March to May)
For many travellers, the best all-round season. The countryside is green, the coast is pleasant and the south is warm but manageable. Ideal for Roman sites like Dougga and El Jem.
Summer (June to August)
Peak beach season on the coast, from Hammamet to Djerba. Summer festivals bring music to places like El Jem and Tabarka. The desert is very hot, so keep Saharan trips short or save them for another season.
Autumn (September to November)
Warm sea, fewer crowds and the return of comfortable temperatures in the south. A good time to combine the coast with the oases around Tozeur.
Winter (December to February)
Mild on the coast and the best time for the Sahara. In December, Douz hosts the International Festival of the Sahara. Nights in the desert can be cold, and the mountains of the north-west, around Ain Draham, can see snow.
Ramadan
Ramadan moves each year with the lunar calendar. Daytime is quieter, while evenings come alive with food and gatherings. Check the dates when you plan.
