Where to Stay in Tunisia: 6 Remarkable Hotels and Guesthouses

The right place to stay can change how you see a destination. These six are not a ranking but a selection, each chosen because it says something about where it is. Rates, availability and details change, so always check directly with the property before booking.

1. Dar El Jeld Hotel and Spa, Tunis medina

A small hotel of 16 suites inside the medina of Tunis, close to the covered souks of the UNESCO-listed old city. Staying here means waking up inside the medina rather than visiting it, and walking out of the door into its lanes.

2. Dar Saïd, Sidi Bou Said

A residence built in the mid-19th century and restored as a hotel, with 24 rooms set around courtyards, a small hammam and a terrace pool with views over the Mediterranean. It is one of the most atmospheric ways to experience Sidi Bou Said after the day visitors leave.

3. Four Seasons Hotel Tunis, Gammarth

Opened in December 2017 on the coast at Gammarth, with around 200 rooms and suites, a Mediterranean beach of about 500 metres, a spa and three restaurants. A polished base for exploring Carthage, La Marsa and Sidi Bou Said, all a short drive away.

4. La Badira, Hammamet

An adults-only hotel on the beach at Hammamet, suited to travellers who want a calm, sea-facing stay within reach of the medina and Cap Bon.

5. Dar Dhiafa, Djerba

In the village of Erriadh on Djerba, Dar Dhiafa joins five traditional houses around patios, domes and rooftop terraces, with two pools and a restaurant serving island dishes. It is a short walk from the Djerbahood murals and close to the El Ghriba synagogue.

6. The Mora Sahara Tozeur (formerly Anantara)

On the edge of the desert near Tozeur, this resort draws on local architecture and crafts and has been awarded a MICHELIN Key. TUI announced in 2025 that it would rebrand the former Anantara Sahara Tozeur as The Mora, so check the current name when booking. It makes an easy base for the Chott el Djerid and the mountain oases.

How to choose

For culture, stay inside a medina. For the coast, Gammarth and Hammamet are easy bases. For the south, a night in the desert or an oasis is the experience itself.
